Young Man, Old Soul is an amazing piece of acoustic music and it’s easy to see how Bluegrass fans get excited about Brandon Rickman as he has crafted, along with co-producer Jimmy Metts, a fine piece of music that stands out as one of the best releases of 2009.” ROUGHSTOCK.COM

“Lonesome River Band lead vocalist’s superb solo debut.  Rickman’s a compelling singer, and framing himself in stripped down arrangements not only differentiates these tracks from those of the Lonesome River Band, but truly highlights the qualities of his voice as an individual.Hyperbolium

“Life’s lessons can be hard, and learning from those lessons harder still. Brandon Rickman has learned the most difficult of all – responding with grace and dignity. The result is wisdom, and there’s a great deal of that here. Recommended!” BLOG CRITICS

Young Man, Old Soul is solid as hell, pristinely recorded, brimming with yesteryear’s refrains and melodies, catchy with chops and hooks, powerful in its sentiments and emotions, a disc that presents the timelessness of the country’s essence in the working man’s life, It’s a tribute well preserved by the artful presence of times gone by speaking to the new millenium.” FAME (Folk & Acoustic Music Exhange)

On Young Man, Old Soul, Rickman shows off his multi-instrumental prowess picking guitar, bass, and mandolin as well as singing lead and harmony vocals and contributing co-writes to eight of the album’s 11 tunes as well as one original that is all his own.   The program is about evenly balanced between bluegrass, gospel, and acoustic country tunes. The one exception is the traditional “Rain & Snow,” arranged by Rickman and fiddler Jenee Fleenor as an old-time, bare-bones lament that showcases the duo’s high lonesome harmonies, Rickman’s solid picking, and Fleenor’s haunted fiddle. “  ALL MUSIC GUIDE

“In his solo album Young Man, Old Soul Brandon Rickman has effectively mined the rich vein lying between bluegrass and country music to produce a dozen songs that communicate the experience of maturing the hard way. The songs, many of them familiar to fans who attend performances of the Lonesome River Band, capture images of lost youth, true love, missed opportunities, and the ever-growing awareness that life is short, sweet, and poignant. Rickman’s voice and lyrics are straightforward and honest. His soulful singing is sincere and just rough enough to suggest a chaw stuck in his lip. These twelve songs effortlessly give off an odor of truth that captures the spirit and imagination. It’s truly a masterful production.”  TED LEHMANN

“Brandon Rickman takes a different approach to his solo album. He instead takes a singer/songwriter approach and has created a great collection of acoustic based, Americana branded, tunes that allow him to showcase his voice and incredible songwriting.” TODAY’S COUNTRY MAGAZINE

“Brandon Rickman’s album was different than anything i have ever heard. He’s got a voice from the middle of the earth. John Shelton Ivany – National News Bureau

“This is the first solo project from Lonesome River Band’s lead singer and guitar player, Brandon Rickman.  This is a good stuff.  If you’re a fan of the Lonesome River Band, you’ll want a coy of Young Man, Old Soul.” AMERICANA RHYTHM MUSIC MAGAZINE

“Love this project a lot – by Brandon Rickman!  First Class Blue Grass!”
Gracie Muldoon – Worldwidebluegrass.com

“Brandon Rickman’s first solo album, YOUNG MAN, OLD SOUL is a rich compilation of songs that spans all of the emotions everyone experiences at sometime in their lives.  It’s about love and love lost; memories of mom and dad, home, and the trials of growing up and aging.  Brandon also includes some humor with “I Bought Her a Dog”.  And no bluegrass album is complete without a gospel song or two.  It’s all there.  Brandon’s choice of songs for this project definitely shows us that he truly is a young man with an old soul.”  – Vicki Abbott, Worldwidebluegrass.com
